The journey of the gaming team known as 100Thieves has been akin to that of a classic “Cinderella story.” The team’s rise to fame since its creation only a few years ago, which sparked backing from the Grammy Award winning artist Drake, has now been made infamous following the breaking of a long-term friendship. The two founding members and creators of the team, Nickmercs and Nadeshot, have had a falling out that saw the former leave the organization entirely.
It might seem an unwise and surprising move to many, given that Nickmercs helped develop the success of the brand from the very beginning, but the streamer doesn’t feel that this is a surprising move at all. On one of his most recent streams of Fortnite, simply titled and uploaded to his YouTube channel as “The Real Reason I Left 100 Thieves…”, Nickmercs fielded a few questions about his departure from 100Thieves.
“If you guys are shocked by that, I’m confused,” he said, addressing his fan’s surprise after the announcement. “That hasn’t been a team that I’ve wanted to be a part of for a minute.”
During the impromptu Q&A, Nickmercs stressed that he didn’t feel like certain promises were being kept by his former friend Nadeshot as the team expanded and reached new levels of success. Monetary issues seemed to be the major theme of his disagreements with the 100Thieves brand. Nickmercs states that he felt Nadeshot “let things spin out of control.”
He also stated that, as far as joining any new teams was concerned: “I have no idea, to be honest.” Another commenter also asked if he considered making his own new team to rival 100Theives. He answered, “There have been talks about it, but I don’t know if that’s me. I think we already have a real tight knit family here.”
To finish, he decided to open up a bit about his current thoughts about Nadeshot as a person: “I don’t hate the guy, but I definitely don’t like him . . . I don’t wish ill will on him. But I’ll never work with him again, I’ll never sit down at a table with him again.”
Nickmercs has a substantial following as a streamer and on Youtube (the video in question already has close to 800,000 views in just two days), so it will be interesting to see where he goes with his future in the gaming community.
As for the team 100Thieves, it seems that its rise shall continue without Nickmercs as new members join and the organization continues to roll out new merchandising selections. Currently, at the time of this article’s posting, May 27th 2019, Nadeshot has not released a statement or referenced Nickmercs video. This may be to avoid adding more controversy to the brand that is also dealing with a lawsuit from FaZe Clan.
