Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which will be releasing in October is taking the plunge into the future by having full support for Crossplay across Xbox, PS4, and PC. This is a huge step to show that even Triple-A games see and value the ability of Crossplay. Infinity Ward is trashing the Season Pass that fans of the CoD franchise have become accustomed to in the past. This will allow for players to not have to spend as much money while still getting loads of content. See this quote from Patrick Kelly, Creative Director and Co-Studio Head for Infinity Ward.
“Every design decision has been made with our players in mind.” “With the launch of Modern Warfare, we’re taking steps to unite the community. First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support. Second, we’re eliminating the traditional season pass, so that we can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players. This is just the beginning – there’s much more to come.”
This is a huge step for future Triple-A titles and as long as everything goes smoothly. I expect to see most games and developers go this route for the future.
